Before we begin to look into Double Dipping, let’s look at the current state of affairs.
Double Dipping is the name of the practice whereby public employees are allowed to retire and begin to collect their pension (usually 2/3 of their income) and then be rehired, often at a lower salary.
Currently, there are 32,000 individuals who “Double Dip.”
There was a study done by the Cleveland Plain Dealer and 7 of the largest Ohio newspaper that concluded that Double Dippers collected over $1 BILLION in pension payments, all of the while collecting a check at the same time. A staggering 75% of double dipping payments went to individuals enrolled in the State Teachers Retirement System (STRS).
My name is William Tarter, Jr. and I am the Creator of the Double Dipping Blog.
This blog is meant to highlight a practice that is prevalent in the State of Ohio and highlight efforts to curb this process that is costing jobs and opportunities for Ohioans.
Here you will read:
1) About individuals who retire and are rehired
2) Read proposed solutions to tackle this issue in a way that meets the needs and protects the rights of all generations
Here’s what I need from you:
1) Send me information on cities and states that have outlawed the practice. Tell me what cities, counties and states have done to address the issue.
2) Share with me instances in Ohio of people who are stepping up and stopping the practice.
Happy Reading and Thanks for stopping by! I hope that this blog encourages you to take action in making Ohio prepared for the needs of the 21st century!
