Before we begin to look into Double Dipping, let’s look at the current state of affairs.
Double Dipping is the name of the practice whereby public employees are allowed to retire and begin to collect their pension (usually 2/3 of their income) and then be rehired, often at a lower salary.
Currently, there are 32,000 individuals who “Double Dip.”
There was a study done by the Cleveland Plain Dealer and 7 of the largest Ohio newspaper that concluded that Double Dippers collected over $1 BILLION in pension payments, all of the while collecting a check at the same time. A staggering 75% of double dipping payments went to individuals enrolled in the State Teachers Retirement System (STRS).
